About me
Tom grew up on the beaches of Long Island, worked as a lifeguard for 8 summers, played a little baseball at East Carolina University, then found his way to Colorado in 1973, where he fell in love, first with Colorado, then with his wife of almost 49 years now.
Tom worked 36 years for the Colorado Division of Youth Services as a counselor with juveniles in locked, long-term treatment facilities- lots of individual, group and family counseling, along with a lot of ball playing and other therapeutic recreational activities. During his final 10 years, Tom served as a Trainer for the Division, providing pre-service training for all new DYS staff.
Through the years, Tom has had the privilege of providing statewide training, along with national conference presentations on Trauma Informed Care, Suicide Dynamics, Youth Mental Health First Aid and Self-Destructive Behaviors; he also wrote, developed and implemented the Informed Supervision curriculum for the Division, which has to do with working with juveniles who commit sexual offenses.
Currently, Tom serves as the Mental Health counselor at Alamosa High School, where he is now in his 7th year, and continues to provide training as needed for teachers and affiliated agencies throughout the San Luis Valley and the State.
